What Motivates You?

Motivation.  We think we understand what we need to light the fire underneath us, and what we need to keep us going.  The video below shows us fascinating research about the truth behind what motivates us.  Findings that offering too much money is actually de-motivating to employees fascinates me.

"Pay people enough to take the issue of money off the table."  That seems to be the key to monetary motivation.  Yet we are in a society bombarded by Self-Proclaimed Wealth Coaches, Success Gurus, and Money Masters, all who have the "key" to unlocking our unlimited earning potential.  Could it be that they're all barking up the wrong tree?

So what DOES motivate us?  According to the video below (provided by the RSA) it's this:

In short, we don't want to be told what to do, we want to be the best at something and do it because we can make the world a better place.  Not really a new idea at all.  From the time I was old enough to be asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I can remember hearing the adage, "Do what you love, and the money will follow."  Now it seems we have the research to back this idea up and the technology to make it happen on a broad scale.

So now that we know WHAT motivates you, how can you put this into play?  How can you make these three key points work for you in your career?  What will you do TODAY to change the way you are motivating yourself?  Leave a comment and tell the world.  Then go Motivate your Success!

Until Next Time, Jacki
