Know Your Business Etiquette in 2012: Introduction

The other day I was reading the Reader's Digest, where I always find fun jokes, interesting stories, and good advice.  As it so happened, I also found the inspiration for this blog series.

I came across an article on modern day manners.  The first part of the article explored why we behave the way we do in the 21st Century.  Things have changed, like

Social Media Stalking

Social Media Stalking: "Social Media Use Can Bring Hidden Dangers"

It's not about fear, it's about awareness. Too often people don't think about the possible ramifications of their actions. It's true in all aspects of life. The difference in social media is that the information you're putting out there is potentially being broadcast to the whole world.

Historypin: Knowing your place in a whole new way

I'm not going to lie, when I first saw the Mashable article on Historypin, I fully expected to be underwhelmed.  Another mapping tool with photos...so what?  Then I watched the video introducing Historypin.  I love it!

In today's online world, the latest greatest sites, apps, and tools are constantly pushing the envelope on what's new.  Historypin does exactly that, but does so in a way that links us to our past.  And not just the history book versions of the past.  This tool connects us with a very personal version of the past by collecting old photos and giving the user a chance to post the story behind the photos.

Take a look and see what you think about this tool that really DOES help you know your place...and places around the globe:

If I were still in school, I would have loved this resource for creating history projects or papers.  As a history buff, I'm still excited about searching the site in my next spare moment.  Now....if I could just find an app that would allow me to actually FIND those spare moments!

Memorial Day Tribute

Today we remember that Freedom isn't Free. I am grateful for those who have fought and died for my right to live a life of freedom.

I Just Can't Do it Anymore!

Seriously.  I've had it.  It finally happened.

As an entrepreneur, we have this tendency to handle everything ourselves.  We start with our Big Idea, the one that sparks a flame inside that turns into an inferno.  We HAVE to share it with the world.  It's our passion, our mission.  We fan the flames for a little while to determine if there's a way to turn our passion into a viable business.

If you are an entrepreneur in ANY phase of the game, then you know exactly what I'm talking about.  You've been there, done that, have the T-shirt.  Er, should I say, the website?!

Stop Motion of My Own Little World on Pay It Forward Day

EHK789HZ5XGD

Today is the Second Annual "Pay It Forward Day," an event started by David Del Mundo over a cup of coffee...literally.  As I'm writing this blog post, over 600,000 people have committed to do a random act of kindness today.  I love that this is sweeping Facebook as people express a dedication to doing something nice for others without any expectation of return.

In an online world where ROI is the buzzword (buzz acronym?) of the year, it's great to know that not everything needs to have a WIIFM attached.*

A Graceful Thanksgiving

Today millions of Americans will gather around an abundant table with their loved ones and offer up a prayer of thanksgiving.  We often refer to this as saying Grace.
But in a world filled with imperfect human beings, there are other forms of grace I'd like to take a closer look at this week.
If you look in Webster's Dictionary, the word "grace" has many definitions.
1. The exercise of love, kindness, mercy, favor; disposition to benefit or serve another; favor bestowed or privilege conferred.

Public Isolation Project: Do TOO Many People Know Your Place?

In today's Web 3.0 world, we are bombarded with the newest, latest, greatest ways to stay connected via technology.  But the Public Isolation Project has forced many in Cyberland to take a long hard look at the real world ramifications of living in a social media world.

Those of us in the marketing industry noticed a huge shift several years ago as Social Media changed
